Remember the Jetsons? Robots that cleaned, food choices you tapped into a computer for preparation…moving sidewalks? Flying cars aside, we aren’t too far off from the technology that seemed so unlikely and impossible. The future – it’s here.
We live in a day and age where these advancements bring forth so many wonderful options and solutions, it’s hard to imagine life without them. What once seemed so unlikely is now the standard for most people.
But unlike the Jetsons, the villains we deal with aren’t cartoon characters that go away in the end. In fact, they aren’t characters we can even see at all. We find ourselves now in territory that is unlike any criminal experience of the past. Hackers live behind electronic walls and borders that give them untethered access to our private lives and data. Forget cartoons – this is straight up science fiction combined with horror movies and the bad guys are essentially moving around in invisible cloaks.
So, how do you catch what you can’t see?
You can only prepare so much for a breach or cyber-criminal activity. Education is key since human error is the largest risk to you and your business. And being prepared and taking all of the right steps can greatly reduce your chances of a breach, but it can still happen.
As we make progress with technology and live in a world and work in a business climate that we have never seen before – and could only be dreamed up years ago, we must match the good with the bad. Cyber insurance should be considered as standard as fire and theft insurance. In fact, the risk of a cyber-attack is greater than the risk of those two! We have moved past the day where preparation is key. It is now only a component of protecting your business.
The future is here, and we need to act accordingly.
